Ruth Brinkerhoff's Caramel -Grandma Great

2 cups sugar
2 cups karo
dash salt

Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Boil to 240°. Very slowly add:

1/2 cup butter
2 cups cream

Never let it stop boiling. Keep stirring until 232°, or it creates a firm ball in water. Remove from heat and add:

1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups nuts

Pour in buttered pan to cool.
