Bread -Amy

1 Tbsp. yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water
2 tsp. salt
3-4 tsp. sugar
4 Tbsp. melted shortening
5 cups flour

Dissolve yeast in a small amount of warm water. Add the rest of the water, along with the salt and vinegar. Add flour, then shortening when partly mixed. Knead and let rise for 2 hours. Punch down, then knead and shape into loaves. Let rise again for 45 minutes. Bake at 425° for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350° for remaining time until done (about 40 minutes longer). Brush tops with butter immediately after removing bread from the oven.
